Dr. Spinner, neuromuscular dentist of Westhampton Beach, New York, is not only a highly skilled and trained general dentist but also has advanced education and experience in diagnosing and treating TMD (Temporomandibular Joint Disorder – a misaligned jaw joint).

Accurate diagnosis of TMD is essential in assuring that your pain and discomfort will be relieved. To properly diagnose it, Dr. Spinner will do a careful clinical examination and use specialized diagnostic technology.

He will first palpate the inside and outside of your mouth to determine where you are experiencing discomfort. Palpation is lightly-applied pressure. If you are suffering from TMD, this light pressure will cause discomfort, which indicates the presence of muscle spasms and inflammation.

A fully-qualified neuromuscular dentist like Dr. Spinner has specialized equipment for TMD diagnosis. It’s known as the K7 Evaluation System, and its results can be printed out in several formats, one of which is a patient education format, easily understandable.

The K7 System does three types of measuring and recording:

• It measures the jaw muscle movements 
• It measures the jaw muscle electrical activity, both resting and movement
• It records the jaw joint sounds

Your TMD examination may include additional testing:

• Radiographic Scans – If deemed necessary, frontal, transcranial, MRI and CT scans will also be performed.

Final Diagnosis will be made after all information and results have been obtained and analyzed.

It is essential for your treatment, healing and recovery that you work only with a dentist trained to diagnose and treat TMD. Dr. Spinner, being an LVI graduate, has intensive theoretical and hands-on training, and has invested in the highest quality equipment.
